On Mentorships and Grover

And here I am, postless on my blogging day once again. But I have a REALLY good excuse.

A couple of days ago Claire discovered that the Australian Writers Association will be running a mentorship programme in 2011, whereby unpublished authors are given a year's worth of mentoring from a published author or editor of their choice. There are only fifteen of these mentorships on offer, and the AWA judges make their selections by reading ten pages of your work, plus a three hundred word letter explaining what your book is about and where you're at with it, plus reviewing your literary CV ...

All good - except for the fact the deadline for submissions - by snail mail only - is FRIDAY!

Needless to say Claire and I have been writing and emailing and stressing all day ... and all I am capable of giving you by way of a Wednesday post is this ...

Enjoy!

  1. Sorry you gals are having to rush for this. As a procrastinator, I do better that way, though I'd prefer it were something a little less important. *g*
Anyhow, I've been meaning to pop-in and say that I like the new layout. Very cute and apropos.

  2. Give 'em hell, ladies! I'm crossing my fingers and toes for you!

Well that and I wish I lived in Australia so I could join you!! :)

-- and thanks, Aven. The new layout is Claire's doing; she keeps us looking fresh around here. (g)

  3. Rach, thank God I had you for company today, or I would have gone nuts trying to get it done alone.

Aven, me too! I like to have a nice long deadline so I can leave it all to the very last minute, *then* rush like a madwoman. And re layout- the old one was a little boring :) We're working on more stuff to add soon.

Kristen- thanks :) Now I think I'm getting a real taste of what you've been through lately with submissions- I am FREAKING OUT at the idea that the judges might not love it. I mean, WHAT? There's a CHANCE they might not love it?? No, get out. Tee hee.

  4. Good luck Rachel and Claire!!! I didn't get a chance to read your snips in time Claire - although I'm going to read them for my own enjoyment anyway. Man those judges don't know what's coming at them...
Rachel, are you going to share yours with us too? Pretty please?

  5. Thank you for all your well-wishes, ladies!

I mailed my pages this morning - by express post, to makes doubly sure they get there by the Friday deadline - so nothing more to do now other than cross fingers and bite nails and wait ...

Deniz, I've posted my ten pages on my NaNo book excerpt page, if you'd like a read ...

And Claire, right back at you. I would have gone round the twist without your company, too, and your input helped save me from sending pages that weren't quite the thing. So thanks! :-)
